wrapping
Ive been wrapping presents. One in particular took a very long time to wrap because I wanted to disguise it so that the recipient wouldnt immediately guess what it was. I want to prolong the sense of anticipation and surprise on Christmas day and make it just that bit more fun. So I set about constructing an elaborate and fairly enormous decoy package shape - and I have to say I'm rather pleased with the result. I dont think it will be possible to guess what it is now. We shall see.
Its fun wrapping things. We know what the gift is, the recipient doesnt. There's something different about handing someone a box of chocolates and handing them the same chocolates wrapped in gift paper. The act of wrapping tells the recipient that this is a gift - it is special - it has been hand chosen by me for you and Ive wrapped it with love to make it more of a special occasion for you.
I know its a bit of a clunky analogy. but Jesus was a bit like that present. God wrapped Himself up in a disguise so unexpected and unlike His natural appearance and we get the thrill of discovering Him as we unwrap the mysteries of the babe in the manger. We look at a poor naked infant in a feeding trough and we can barely conceive that this is in fact the creator of the universe, the One who rules and reigns. who made man in His own image and is worshipped by angels. God must like surprises. I think if He was putting presents under the tree He'd be wrapping them up in all sorts of imaginative ways.
| Thought this was funny. The present is not a toilet. Its disguised to look like one :) |
One Good Thing : I was in the supermarket and walked past the cut flowers. I had a thought that maybe I should be buying flowers for someone so I asked God and a name came into my head. Not someone I know terribly well but I'd be seeing them later in the day. So I bought the flowers. And they were surprised and pleased and , I trust, blessed.
